Mini Gladiators

Children can put their history lessons into practice at the Rome Cavalieri, Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, where Rome's ancient Gladiatore are on the curriculum for the upcoming summer holidays and beyond. Taking inspiration from their hugely popular gladiator lessons, the Rome Cavalieri is now offering a complimentary mini-gladiator dressing up box for children under ten years of age to bring imagination to life!

Gladiators fought 2,000 years ago in arenas across the Roman Empire and their legacy is part of the city's rich history. Where better for children to put their history lessons into practice than the private gardens of the Rome Cavalieri, where they can let their imagination run wild and play like Spartacus, fighting off ferocious lions and sword-wielding warriors!

In conjunction with our art historian, Rome Cavalieri is delighted to offer its guests a private tour to two of the most exclusive palaces in the city, both still inhabited by members of the Pallavicini and Colonna families. The Palazzo Colonna is a treasure trove of extraordinary paintings by artists such as Poussin, Tintoretto, Veronese and Carracci. Family portraits include Vittoria Colonna, the poetess friend of Michelangelo, and Marcantonio Colonna, one of the victorious admirals at the Battle of Lepanto. With their private guide, guests achieve a deeper understanding of these palaces and their place in Roman history as well as an intimate look at the lavish domestic world of old Rome.

THE SECRETS OF VIA GIULIA

Accompanied by a private art historian, guests will revive some of the captivating legends associated with via Giulia, one of the most significant and fascinating streets of Rome, from the Church of San Giovanni dei Fiorentini, to the hidden stairways leading to Borromini's underground crypt up to the nearby Oratorio del Gonfalone, exclusively opened for the occasion. The selection will be concluded in the masterful rooms of Palazzo Sacchetti, still in private hands and closed to the public. Duration 3 hours.
