Rome has many secrets. In conjunction with our art historian, Rome Cavalieri is able to offer its guests a private tour to two of the most exclusive palaces in the city, both still inhabited by members of the Pallavicini and Colonna families. The Palazzo Colonna is a treasure trove of extraordinary paintings by artists such as Poussin, Tintoretto, Veronese and Carracci. Family portraits include Vittoria Colonna, the poetess friend of Michelangelo, and Marcantonio Colonna, one of the victorious admirals at the Battle of Lepanto.
From the Palazzo Colonna we proceed up the Quirinal Hill to the Casino dell'Aurora, a magnificent pavilion set in the hidden gardens of the Palazzo Pallavicini, opposite the Italian Presidential Palace. Exquisite relief panels from ancient sarcophagi adorn the outer walls while inside is a famous ceiling fresco by Guido Reni. At sunset the pavilion offers the most magnificent Rome views.
With their private guide, guests achieve a deeper understanding of these palaces and their place in Roman history as well as an intimate look at the lavish domestic world of old Rome.
